Apple unveiled its M5 Pro and M5 Max processors on March 3, marking a significant departure from previous Apple Silicon generations. The new chips feature a Fusion Architecture with "super cores" that Apple claims are the world's fastest, incorporating chiplet designs and a third core design for professional workflows. Early benchmark results released by March 5-6 showed the M5 Max achieving record-breaking scores in Geekbench testing, matching the performance of the M3 Ultra GPU while exceeding its CPU capabilities. A subsequent macOS Tahoe 26.3.1 update enabled optimization of the M5's CPU cores for enhanced performance.
