Apple announced at WWDC26 on June 8 that watchOS 27 will drop support for the Apple Watch Series 9, Ultra 1, and SE 2, along with older models, leaving only five Apple Watch models compatible with the new operating system. The move eliminates support for relatively recent hardware, effectively rendering millions of devices unable to run the latest software. Apple did not publicly explain the reasoning behind the compatibility cuts announced during the keynote presentation.
